Planet Explorer Beta Launched

Planet (formerly Planet Labs) recently released its Planet Explorer Beta app for accessing its satellite imagery. This Silicon Valley company is best known for its pioneering the use of miniature satellites called ‘Doves’.

To access the imagery, sign up for a free account, zoom to your area of interest, draw a box on the map, and you’ll toggle imagery captured every week or so for the area you selected. Note that this imagery does not have the high resolution of LARIAC, NearMap, or other aircraft-acquired imagery that many of us are used to. Its continually updated imagery has found uses in climate monitoring, crop yield prediction, urban planning, and disaster response.
