Internships/Volunteers

This page contains resources for departments to get interns and volunteers for GIS.

Interns

The County’s Academic Internship Program (AIP) supports internships from current students from a set of partnering 4-year universities.  These internships are unpaid.  You should go through your Human Resources section to complete this process.

Basic steps include writing a project description, submitting to Human Resources, and tracking when the project is announced.  Once announced you can work with your department and the County Geographic Information Officer to spread the word.  When you receive resumes, you can interview candidates, select a candidate, go through the paperwork, and then get the person on-board.  This can take a long time, so be patient, and plan for at least a few months in the future.

Volunteers

If someone has completed their coursework but still would like to work at the County, they can take the Volunteer route.  Some related documents are here – thank you to Regional Planning for providing them.
