Service Description

The eGIS Data Repository, part of the eGIS Program, holds over 500 datasets that form the foundation of any map, GIS application, or geographic analysis.  These datasets are maintained by County departments or, obtained from partner agencies, or acquired by the eGIS Program.

eGIS Member departments access the repository directly through Desktop GIS software (e.g. Esri ArcGIS Desktop), or by leveraging eGIS Online Services to build applications.

The public is able to access non-confidential and non-restricted information through the LA County GIS Data Portal.

Governance

CIO Technology Directive TD 12-02 requires departments to maintain authoritative copies of their GIS data in the LA County Enterprise GIS Repository.  Departments sign a “Geospatial Data Maintenance agreement” which provides guidelines on ensuring data in the Repository is kept up to date.

The Enterprise GIS Data sub-Committee establishes standards for the eGIS Data Repository.

Custom Data Services

The Enterprise GIS Group can develop and build GIS data sets for departments through address geocoding, data conversion and analysis, or geographic modelling (e.g. solar models) as part of its GIS Solutions.
