Grouping Layers in Web App Builder

Hello,

I found an interesting article online this morning that describes how to group layers in Web App Builder. This is still a workaround, and is still in the product plan by ESRI (BTW, if you’d like to upvote this idea on Geonet, click here). Presently the only way AGOL recognizes a group layer is if it is published from an MXD through ArcGIS Server. However if your map has several different Hosted Feature layers, there’s no way to group them out of the box. The article below describes how to create multiple layer widgets, then group them together.

  • Before you start, save your present ‘Layers’ icon as a .png or a jpeg, because you will need this later (right-click, ‘Save image as…’):

  • Here is the article that describes how to group the layers within Web App Builder.  After you configure the grouped layers, see below for the remaining steps.
  • The default group layer icon is this folder icon.  Click Change Icon, crop the image so that the layer graphic fits into the square, and then you’ll have the nice ‘Layer’ icon in your app (see screenshots below).
