LARIAC 6 Status Update – COVID-19 Related

We want to provide an update to LARIAC 6 aerial imagery acquisition as the COVID-19 outbreak continues to evolve.

After consultation between Steve Steinberg (Project Director) and EagleView, we agree it was prudent to pull their pilots and planes out of Los Angeles County, which was completed this past weekend to allow all pilots to safely return home.

The vast majority of the flying has been completed, although a few areas have yet to be flown due to Air Traffic Control restrictions and poor weather (These are the areas indicated in gray: Edwards Air Force Base, parts of Santa Monica Mountains and Puente Hills). This means that we will not capture all areas of the county by April as planned.

In the meantime, image processing is continuing and roughly 90% of the tiled imagery will be available on CONNECTExplorer (see included maps).

As of 3/24, you may access 4-inch and 9-inch tiles shown in light blue and purple, respectively, via Early Access on CONNECTExplorer:

On a positive note, we also do have the 3-inch non-AccuPlus ortho imagery flown in the Fall of 2019 available in CONNECT and as an image service.

In the past, EagleView has provided LARIAC participants the option of a 9-inch ortho mosaic generated for CONNECTExplorer. The benefit to this is that users don’t have to view individual image frames with the black areas around them.

Question: Would a mosaic based on the 9-inch imagery be of value to your organization?
The mosaic would not be available as an image service – but available through their platform.

If you have a need for a preliminary Spring 2020 9-inch ortho mosaic (without final QA/QC) on CONNECT, please let us know. We will only request this interim product if it provides value of our members, otherwise we will not distract EagleView from continuing to work towards delivery of the AccuPlus imagery.

Of course, given the delays due to the pandemic, we cannot predict precisely when LARIAC 6 imagery capture will be completed and if or how this may impact final delivery date.

We remain in regular communication with our EagleView team and will provide updates when they are available.

In the meantime, please remember all LARIAC members continue to have access to a wealth of information on our LARIAC site: https://egis3.lacounty.gov/dataportal/lariac/

Thank you for your patience during this challenging time.  Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,
Steve Steinberg, Christine Lam and Nick Franchino
