LAC+USC Medical Center is now “Los Angeles General Medical Center” as of May 3, 2023.
The announcement of a new name for LAC+USC comes after months-long research-driven process that engaged patients, LA County residents, community partners, and staff to better understand their opinions and perceptions of the medical center.
Through surveys, polls and listening sessions we learned that overall, there was no consistent name recognition for how LAC+USC was referred to throughout the county. We learned that the current name often resulted in confusion, with patients showing up for appointments to a nearby hospital with similar name. We learned that a name centered in an acronym was especially confusing for community members and patients who do not have English as their primary language. We also learned that the community understood us as an excellent facility for trauma cases, but that our trauma center often overshadowed our other offerings and opportunities for their overall patient well-being.
To honor and reflect our mission, our vision, and our accomplishments on behalf of this community, today we are announcing our new name, a name that honors our past, our community, and will lead us into the next chapter.
